Just came back from two weeks in NJ, including a week down at Cape May. I picked up a few nice Cape May diamonds and other interesting quartz specimens from the beach. Nothing spectacular, but some fun stuff. My son-in-law's mother did me the favor of picking up some more stones for me on the day I didn't go to the beach. When I got home to AZ, I sorted everything before putting it in the tumbler, and frankly, most of the stuff she picked up was relegated to the cactus garden outside. But one piece, no bigger than a small marble, caught my attention. Beach-tumbled, it looked like it might be rutilated, but I couldn't tell for sure. After a week in the tumbler on fine grind, it proved out -- a slightly smoky quartz just loaded with gold-colored needles. Has anyone ever heard of rutilated quartz at Cape May? This was from the main (southern) beach, not the western Delaware Bay side of Sunset Beach. Linda in AJ
