Rob,

Try another small piece of agate. If it cuts that try an incrementally larger piece. As the size increases the time to make the cut will increase. If as you try to cut larger pieces you can put some weight on the end of the arm. A couple of three pounds shouldn't hurt the blade I wouldn't think (other opinions?). Remember, as the blade moves in to the rock its draging on the sides reducing the effect of gravity. Good luck and give us a progress report.
