I have heard many people say that you can drain it through paper shopping bags. I myself, because of the type of oil I use, just drain it through a screen-type kitchen collander. This lets the good stuff through, and catches the stone chips and the badly contaminated oil gels, so I can dilute it with water out in a corner of the garden and it just drains away.
