I would to take an old bed sheet, fold it a bunch of times and place it over a 5 gallon bucket. Allow it to sag in the center while securing it around the rim and gently pour in the used oil. It may take a bit of time but I think this would filter out a lot of the sludge and particulate. I wouldn't use this method for engine oil, however it should be sufficient for a rock saw.
