Best way to remove white

I just obtained at least a dozen small/medium stones of vulcan nephrite jade in the rough. The jade has a white "crust" I need to get off and don't want to damage the vulcanization. I'm using a soft wire brush but is taking forever. I also have wet sandpaper 220- 1000. I was told NOT to put in tumbler but someone suggested trying that clr cleaner or lyme away. I don't want to damage the jade and these are rough ranging in size of about a quarter to a half dollar. Not a lot of smooth surface to sand and don't want to use grinder. Please help me so I can polish and preserve the great vulcan color.
