strange specimen

Found the specimen in gallery photos with same title on the shores of Lake Ouachita, near Hot Springs, AR. Looked like two iron balls cemented together, until my grandson dropped it, exposing the core of one of the balls. I believe it to be marcasite, but have never seen anything quite like it.
