It might, but I kind of doubt it. A number of years ago, I collected similar nodules from clay pits here in NJ. I tried all kinds of ways (but didn't spray them with any coating) and from perhaps two dozen, I have only one small one left. The best seemed to be to warm them, then place them in a solution of washing soda for a few hours, then thoroughly soak, rinse and dry them. And keep them away from humidity if possible. Above all, don't wrap them in newspaper. The sulfide in the paper accelerates the decomposition.
