If you are into gem finishing/faceting that's the way to go. But, I have a nice piece with a great bunch of garnets in the matrix and I prefer to keep it in it's natural state as a display piece. So much more interesting in that way and tells a more complete visual story. But, most of the gems in my piece have a very tough coating of whitish/grayish material I would hope to remove. Having little depth of knowledge in that respect, perhaps someone might have a recommendation on how to do this. Chemical, mechanical (the coating is tough!)? Thought a mini abrasive blaster might work since the gems are rather hard, but these items are costly and maybe impracticsl for limited use. Suggestions welcomed.
